“I’ve had a great experience working with all the smart, driven folks in the Greater Boston Network who want to get involved in their communities! As treasurer for the Angus Jennings for Lieutenant Governor campaign committee, I look forward to using our housing workshops to raise young people’s concerns to the campaign about the price and supply of housing in Greater Boston.”

Thanks to those who joined us last month at our third housing policy event on April 16! Please save the date for the fourth event on Wednesday, May 21 (details TBC). Our speaker will be Larry Field, Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, who will speak about the impact that government has on the price and supply of housing in Greater Boston.

April Housing Event Recap
Kriesberg Workshop Pictures Our expert speaker at the April event was Joe Kriesberg, President and CEO of the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations (MACDC); he also serves on the City of Boston Mayor’s Housing Task Force. Joe explained the role of CDCs in facilitating community members to make positive neighborhood changes, saying that improving the quality of housing affects the entire neighborhood. He provided an overview of the challenges Boston faces in developing available sites into affordable housing. Following Joe’s talk, we recruited volunteers to conduct research on various zoning topics, which will inform questions for future speakers and contribute to our final policy proposal.

May Community Events
The American Planning Association – Massachusetts Chapter is holding a workshop on Inclusionary Zoning Solutions. Serving as keynote speaker will be Sheila Dillon, Boston Chief of Housing and Director of the Department of Neighborhood Development. The event is on Wednesday, May 14, in Devens, MA.

The Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) Young Professional Group will be joining the Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) on a Walking Tour through Chinatown on Friday, May 30th.

We hope to see you at our next housing event on May 21. Please feel free to email us with any questions!
